The first complex BEFLEX wayfinding system
The Puskás Arena is the country's largest stadium for sports and music events, the primary home base for the Hungarian national team and can accommodate more than 67,000 people. Interestingly, the center circle is located exactly at the same place as its predecessor, the Puskás Ferenc Stadium.
Wayfinding system concept
Graphasel Design Studio was commissioned by the Budapest Development Centre to design the image and wayfinding system for the reconstructed Népstadion, now known as Puskás Arena. Our team was involved in the project as consultants and contractors.
The main purpose of wayfinding is to provide effective navigation, so it should be able to guide visitors in a logical and self-explanatory way.
The Puskás Arena's wayfinding system can help navigate up to 67,000 people, so clear and fast information delivery was a primary safety concern.
For large masses, there is no time to interpret the elements at length, so it is critical that they are of the right size, shape, and orientation to be easily detected and interpreted.
We used a variety of installation solutions throughout the Arena and ensured the implementation of the visitor management system from the static measurements to the last screw.
The wayfinding system elements:
- pylons,
- illuminating elements,
- directional panels,
- infographic elements,
- and durable cover panels have been printed and manufactured by us.
The construction of the Puskás Arena was an exciting challenge due to the tight deadline and the large volume of varied products. Graphasel and BEFLEX directors conducted an on-the-spot survey and 'designed' each communication element to speed up the design and production process.
When designing the management system of the Puskás Arena, it was particularly important to harmonise the different dimensions and functions of the building in terms of visual communication. To this end, particular attention was paid to the production of highly applicable graphic and spatial elements that harmonise with the building's image.
Being involved in the design of the management system of the Puskás Arena was a special feeling, as contributing to the operation of such a large facility that can accommodate so many people is not something you do every day. We gained a lot of wayfinding experience through the project and we are proud to have been part of it. Thanks to Graphasel Design Studio for their excellent collaboration and for giving us the opportunity to create something really special.
