6 minute read

Signage plays a versatile role in business. It is an effective tool for creating a positive first impression, increasing brand visibility and awareness, informing customers, and establishing credibility and professionalism. In today's competitive business environment, signage elements play a crucial role in attracting customers, increasing brand visibility and driving business success. Signage serves as an effective marketing tool that conveys messages, grabs attention and directs customers to the right place.

The Role of Signage

1. Signage as the first impression:

Signage elements are often the first point of contact with customers. Well-designed and visually appealing signage has the potential to attract passers-by, arouse their curiosity and encourage them to explore and buy. It sets the tone for the overall customer experience and can influence the image of a business's professionalism, quality and credibility because of its appearance and quality.

2. Brand visibility and awareness:

Reinforces brand identity and increases brand awareness. Consistent use of the logo, colours, fonts and visual elements on various signage elements creates a strong and positive brand image and increased reach. When customers repeatedly encounter signage that aligns with the brand's visual identity, it reinforces brand recall, trust and loyalty

3. Wayfinding:

Wayfinding elements such as signs, panels and other similar items serve as important navigation tools, directing visitors to desired destinations, entrances, products, etc. Clearly designed and positioned wayfinding systems help to flow visitors and improve the overall visitor experience. This applies not only to customers or visitors, but also to employees. Providing directional information such as arrows, maps or floor plans allows for easy and efficient orientation around the premises, which can create a positive feeling in visitors and is linked to the experience of discovering the brand, store, etc.

4. Establishing credibility and professionalism:

Unique signage elements that are maintained and adapted to the brand identity convey a sense of competence and professionalism. Businesses that communicate with well-maintained, eye-catching, exciting signage elements are considered more trustworthy and are more likely to be chosen. By investing in signage that reflects professionalism, businesses can enhance their image and inspire confidence in potential customers.

  • indoor signage,
  • and outdoor signage.

Indoor signage elements

Comprises the range of signage used in interior spaces. These signage elements have different functions, such as communicating information, wayfinding or promotional messages.

  • wayfinding systems, which are used to direct people,
  • information boards/signs that convey important messages,
  • promotional signs and signage highlighting products and services,
  • signs to raise awareness.

Outdoor signage elements

Easy to see, easy to recognise. They are designed to attract attention and increase brand awareness and reach. The fact that they are outdoors changes the use of materials. They are made from more durable and weather-resistant materials.

Outdoor signage includes building signs displaying the company name and logo, billboards near roads or highways, vehicle decorations to turn vehicles into moving billboards, etc.

Both indoor and outdoor signage play a crucial role in communicating messages, promoting businesses and orienting people. The design, placement and quality of signage elements are vital factors in ensuring their effectiveness and impact.

Wayfinding

Wayfinding is the process of using signs, symbols and other spatial cues to help people find their way around the physical environment. The goal of effective wayfinding is to increase customer satisfaction, efficiency and business revenue. Learn more about wayfinding...

To create an intuitive experience, effective wayfinding design takes into account user needs and space layout. It includes visual cues such as maps, symbols, columns, lighting and other wayfinding elements. All of these form the information system that is critical in larger, more complex buildings such as:

  • airports,
  • shopping centres,
  • supermarkets,
  • stadiums,
  • offices,
  • museums,
  • factories
  • and other similar facilities.

Wayfinding systems enhance security and accessibility while improving user experience and reducing confusion.

The design of wayfinding elements is as important as the signage itself. They need to be easy to understand, while aligning with the look and feel of the place and brand identity. Products need to convey information clearly so that everyone can easily navigate.

By prioritising thoughtful and effective visitor wayfinding design, businesses can create a seamless experience for visitors, customers and employees alike.

Commercial & Business signage

Signage designed and created for businesses or organisations to promote their brand, products or services is called commercial signage (or at least that's what we call it).

These signs are typically used to attract attention and convey messages to people in public places such as shops, offices and public buildings. They are also great for advertising and can serve as an additional element in displays.

Commercial signage elements can be used both indoors and outdoors. They can take many forms, including illuminated signage, digital signage, pylons, etc.

Commercial signage elements are designed to:

  • to effectively convey information or advertising messages,
  • increase brand awareness,
  • attract new customers,
  • increase sales,
  • and enhance the overall customer experience.

Signage Types

There are many types of commercial signage, some of which we will now describe in a few words.

Lighting and Non-Lighting Signs

Illuminated or backlit signs significantly improve visibility and attract attention, especially in low-light conditions. This increased visibility helps businesses stand out, increases brand awareness and grabs people's attention. Illuminated signs provide 24/7 advertising.

However, lighting is not always a primary factor, for example, in indoor signage solutions. Both lit & illuminated and non-lit options are available for any signage.

Lightbox sign

A lightbox signage is a versatile solution, a carrier that holds a graphic element and displays it in a translucent way, showing the desired images and messages. The box incorporates an LED light source that illuminates the graphic in a uniform or targeted manner.

Lightboxes are long-lasting solutions, as updating graphics is a simple process. Depending on your preferences, a variety of materials can be installed in the lightbox, including options such as paper, canvas, or plexiglass.

Channel letter

A channel letter is a type of signage that consists of individually produced letters or characters. These letters are typically made of metal, such as aluminum or stainless steel, or plexiglass occaisinally wood. They can be illuminated or non-illuminated.

Their three-dimensional appearance is quite eye-catching and therefore very effective when mounted on the facades of buildings or shops, which is why they are often used for building signs, shop windows and other outdoor advertising.

The letters are hollow so that LED modules or other lighting elements can be installed inside them.

LED-neon signs

Although LED-neon signage is similar to neon signage in terms of attention-grabbing appearance, the use of felxible LED tubes/strips instead of inert gas-filled tubes has several advantages:

  • they are more cost-effective,
  • more energy efficient,
  • more durable
  • and safer than their conventional counterparts.

As with neon signage, LED neon can be customized to create excellent unique logos and shapes, providing a distinctive and memorable visual presence. What sets LED neon signage apart from the rest is its ability to illuminate in a wide spectrum of colours, offering endless possibilities for creating immersive and personalized visual experiences.

Backlit lighting sign

Signs or signs behind which LED light sources are installed. This causes the aura of the sign and/or lettering to glow. Backlit signs and lettering provide an attractive, elegant and aesthetic solution.

Pylon / Totem signage

A pilon or totem pole is a freestanding, typically tall vertical structure, usually placed at the entrance of a shop or commercial establishment, or along the roadside, to be visible from a distance and to reach as many people as possible. We typically recommend it for the following locations:

  • along busy roads,
  • shopping centres,
  • and business parks.

We design it to provide information, logos or promotional messages in a prominent, easily noticeable way, drawing attention and/or directing people to a specific location.

It can display messages in one, both, or even 360°. Totem poles are typically illuminated, although this is not always necessary and can be done without if required.

The pillars can be customised with different materials or digital signage displays to provide a distinctive and impactful visual display for your brand or business.
